Featured speaker: Chris Benner
Technological advancement has created a fundamental shift in the structure of how we work now and will work in the future. With its rapidly-widening income disparities, is the west in general — and the Bay Area in particular — on a path to an increasingly economically unequal society? Could interventions like a universal technological dividend be a possible and effective way to move forward?
This salon will outline the causes of this latest trend toward inequality in more detail and discuss inventive practical solutions that can promote inclusive growth.
Chris is a Professor of Environmental Studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where he focuses on the relationships between technological change, regional development, and structures of economic opportunity. His recent book uncovers the processes, policies and institutional arrangements that have enabled certain regions around the country to consistently link prosperity and inclusion.
